May 10, 2003 As the weather got warmer the cars got faster. Qualifying for the Late Model Sportsmen marked some of the fastest times of the year for some of the drivers, new and old. Jammie ran his fastest time of the year, 16.977. He got the outside pole. On the opening lap he got stuck on the outside and the 40 of Mark Wertz, 21 of Bobby Spivey, and 14 of Shaun Balluzzo passed him. Jammie was now in 5th. The first of many cautions came on lap 3 when the 34 of Paul Debolt spun on the backstretch. On the restart the 16 of Jeff Sampson got in the grass in turn 2, and the 95 of Danny Harrell hit the outside wall, bringing out another caution. The 3rd caution came on lap 6 when the 28 of Billy Fisher spun on the backstretch. Two laps later Harrell hit the wall again. Once again a caution was thrown. As the field restarted Jammie realized that he couldn't put his car into 3rd gear, therefore, he was forced to start in 4th. On lap 20 the 45 of Doug Warren passed Jammie. Then on lap 27 the 15 of Todd VanGuilder passed him and Jammie was put to 7th. Ten laps later the 68 of Kevin Cunningham passed Jammie and put him in 8th, where he finished. --Melissa Hilbourn, Goode's Motorsports Reporter
